We visited the birthing centre last Weds after contractions increased. On checking the baby's heart rate the midwife noticed there was a dip so we were taken to the labour ward for further monitoring. The midwives noticed the same thing and the baby was in distress with each contraction with his heart beat dropping off. The emergency plug was pulled and within 2 seconds the room was full with midwives, consultants, managers and support workers. My membranes were ruptured and labour intensified rapidly with the baby being closely monitored. Contractions were excruciating, I had gas and air, the consultant used the suction to turn the baby the right way, I believe his hand was also on his head and he wasn't lay in a favourable way for delivery. I was given 2 attempts to deliver him before the foreceps were used. Luckily they gave me 1 extra attempt and he was delivered safely.
I honestly can't thank the staff enough, so professional, caring, attentive and brilliant! I'm pretty sure things wouldn't have turned out well in the end without this team so thank you from the bottom of our hearts! I'm not sure if I thanked everyone properly at the end, I was still in shock. The main midwife had a student midwife with her, I remember a lady in dark blue who was the manager. She was very comical, put us at ease. And the consultant/surgeon in blue scrubs, she was so calm and absolutely phenomenal! Thank you all so so so much!!!!!!!
