"Caring and professional over a busy Christmas..."

Our little girl was taken into York via ambulance from our GP surgery as she was struggling to breath due to a chest infection. The care we received from Ward 17 during her admission and stay were fabulous! The staff were attentive, caring and professional. As a mum who was on the verge of a breakdown for not being able to help my own daughter; the staff were great at keeping me calm. They were also fantastic at providing my husband and I with information and were to true to their word when we asked about times frames, such as when would the antibiotics being given in the night. All the clinical staff that were involved in her care were inclusive and were great at answering any questions. They were also kind to us and treated us as equals.

The facilities for the children were fabulous and were helped to encourage our daughter to get on her feet. The staff who run the play area and talk to the kids are such a credit to the department. They really try hard to make the experience as positive and fun as it can be. For example, there were so many Christmas activities to do, music playing and cartoons to watch. When our daughter was still in bed they even brought toys to her.

The bay we were in was clean and tidy and domestic staff helpful and cheerful. The facilities for parents to stay the night were great and took away the anxious feeling of having to leave my daughter alone in hospital.

Everyone made the time for us during a busy Christmas period and they really did their best at keeping our spirits up over what would have been a busy time. We can't thank you enough Ward 17.
