After suffering terrible hip pain for well over a year my GP referred me to see Mr Gaston the hip specialist at ERI. I met him in June last year and I felt like I had been hit by a bus when he explained to me that I had no cartilage left on my right hip and I was now looking at a Total Hip Replacement - this couldn't be the case - I was only in my forties - hip replacements are for the over 70s I thought! !
Mr Gaston was excellent and spent time with me explaining and reassuring me that I would make a good recovery and get my life back again if I had the operation. However, I still became very anxious about the situation and waited on the date of my operation coming through. My operation took place in October and I cannot thank Mr Gaston, his team and the excellent nurses who looked after me in hospital. The nurses who looked after me in the ward went over and above what was being asked of them each day - it was an eye-opener for some one like me who has never been in hospital to witness how hard they work and the care that they deliver each day. I am now back to work, back at the gym and ready for my big 50 birthday.
