"Maxillofacial/orthodontics outpatients were..."

I recently attended this department for a consultation and subsequently a mouth biopsy. All staff at both visits were friendly and efficient. The staff conducting the biopsy were particularly very approachable and made a potentially unpleasant procedure much easier with their reassuring and professional approach.

The staff took time to introduce themselves and created a calm atmosphere. Hand washing was thorough and generally I felt confident that cross infection was highly unlikely. At every stage I was asked if I was happy for things to proceed and at all times care was taken to put me at ease.

I was pleasantly surprised that although at times unpleasant, the procedure was virtually painless and the recovery much easier than I was expecting.

The staff I saw across the department appeared to get on well and I assume this high morale must in some way reflect the leadership style.

This department is doing something right. Some other areas across the two hospitals may need to take note.
