"To quick to try and discharge"

About: East Surrey Hospital

I arrived at a&e on my own following a serious overdose. Was assessed by triage very quickly who got a doctor to see me. He wanted me to go home because all they was going to do was monitor me and I would be more comfortable at home which is fair enough. However whilst still in the department I went on to have 2 seizures and woke up in resus. I cannot fault the nursing staff as when I was coming around from the seizures they were very good with me and reassuring as I was confused. My overal treatment within the department was good. Just wish the doctor who saw me initially looked in to my history and read about how I can react to certain medications. All he had to do was ask a nurse in the majors area. Apart from the initial doctor my experience was satisfactory.

Thank you for your feedback and we will share your experience with the ED team. I am sorry that you felt we asked you to leave too quickly; as you know situations in ED are dynamic and can change quickly.

I am glad that other aspects of your journey went well.

kind regards

Nicola Shopland

Divisional Chief Nurse Medicine
