"Disappointing care on the ward"

About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre

(as the patient),

During my stay I found that the nursing care was disappointing with a  general lack of understanding or  interest in patient welfare. Compassion and respect for patients was  generally lacking. One nurse came into ward announcing that they hate their job and was counting the hours till their shift ended! I thought that medication was seriously  disorganised and poorly co-ordinated. My visitors were  not welcomed on the ward and it seemed that visitors were considered to be an irritation that nursing staff merely had to tolerate. Family and friends visiting were therefore  met outside the ward and taken up to the wonderful Wellness centre on the 4th floor which proved to be  a beacon of excellence during my 6 x week stay.
