At Ashley House as well as interventions for drug and alcohol problems a crucial part of what we do is to undertake harm reduction initiatives similar to those that you have had. We try to encourage all our service users to be tested for blood borne viruses and I am glad you decided to take this up and are now receiving treatment .Often a person with Hep-C will either not experience any symptoms for several years, until the virus causes severe problems or symptoms are exhibited which can be misdiagnosed as flu,fatigue ,anaemia or depression. Knowing you have the virus also helps in preventing transmission to others. I am sure you will have already spoken at length to the staff in Ashley House about issues but if you have any worries ,need more information, or know anyone who would benefit from being tested please speak to your key-worker or one of the harm reduction nurses
