"Disappointed"

About: Radcliffe-on-Trent. Health Centre

Got a quick appointment with doctor, and was recommended X-rays before further treatment. Was recommended stronger over the counter pain killers. Happy with visit. Very naive and thought I would get X-ray following day and results by end of week! Appointment for X-ray 3 weeks. Results told by hospital 6-10 days. As my condition was pulled muscles I needed to know what exercise I could or couldn't do. At nearly 74 it is important to 'use it or lose it'. I ride horses, do yoga, a Zumba class and go to the gym - none of which I could do when I pulled the muscles. I was therefore upset by the long wait for X-ray results. Six days after having them I rang four days running to be told the results were not in. When I asked if they could phone me when they received them I was told they did not do that, so it wasted mine and the receptionists time every time I rang. The last time the receptionist told me it was no use ringing yet as results were taking up to four weeks to come through. I then immediately made an appointment with the physiotherapist, who gave me the confidence I needed to try riding and exercise after examining me. I then rang to see if the doctor would recommend the two visits to the physiotherapist I was entitled to. The surgery had phoned (after telling me they did not do that!) to say my results were in. I asked if I could have a phone call with the doctor the next day to be told it was non urgent and the first appointment I could have was in three weeks! However, the doctor allowed my physio appointments and when I went yesterday she had the results of the X-rays, and with models explained the results. I made my second appointment with her and came home and cancelled my telephone appointment with the doctor as I felt it was taking up time for someone more needing. I feel very let down that I took 10 weeks from my original appointment with the doctor to getting the results of the X-ray. If I had followed the doctors advice not to see a physio until these results were received, I would have sat doing nothing. Everyone kept asking me if I had received the results and then said 'you should have gone to A and E'.

I tried to play fair by the system not doing this!

Thank you for your feedback about your delay in having your X-ray done and obtaining the results. Unfortunately in General Practice we do not have any control over the waiting time for X-rays or the time taken for X-rays to be reported at the hospital. We are sorry this has been difficult for you but hope your problem has now been dealt with to your satisfaction. You were right not to go to A+E which is for medical emergencies only. If you would like to discuss your problem further, please make an appointment with any of the GPs who will be happy to see you.
