Last October I came off my motorbike rupturing my spleen and fracturing my ribs as I subsequently discovered. It was fortunate that a passerby called the ambulance service, I think it must have taken about 20 minutes for the first responder to arrive although it felt so much longer. the First responder was excellent, he checked for injuries, held my head and was very reassuring.
Shortly after this the ambulance arrived, I was taken to Poole Hospital A&E where they assessed my injuries, felt I needed more care than they could provide and was blue-lighted to Southampton Hospital. The two ambulance crews were brilliant, they did all they could to keep my spirits up.
At Southampton I was initially treated by the Trauma unit then moved to the high Dependency Unit for a further 5 days before returning to Poole for a further two days before being discharged.
I wanted to thank everyone involved in my care and treatment for the excellent service they all provided. I am still recovering but without their combined efforts I would be in a very bad state. If I could I'd also like to thank the stranger who called for the ambulance, unfortunately I was in too much shock and pain to thank him.
