"A&E viist"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary / Accident and emergency

I was sent to A&E by my GP with a letter on 20/12/17 with some concerning symptoms that were worrying me & my GP. I had an MRI scan & report with me.

As a member of ED staff this was something I didn’t want to do at all and was very scepticle about being there. Only the staff that needed to know what was going on were aware. i did not want my colleagues knowing my medical history. I would like to thank Medical and nursing staff above all for their kind and supportive empathy shown to me.

My issues lie with the onward speciality (Spinal/ Orthopaedics) of who I was referred to. They were very rude and hostile towards me when they came to see me, I was treated with no dignity and compassion. The Registrar left me in tears having made some very unsympathetic remarks to me, saying he was only worried, if I couldn’t walk at all !!

I was in the department almost 7 hours that day, that not being the issue, but what is concerning is that a member of staff visits the department ( who does have knowledge) and is treated like this, the rest of the public don’t stand a chance !!!

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to send in a review about your recent experience in Accident and Emergency and Orthopaedics. Whilst we are pleased that you were happy with your care in A&E, we are disappointed to hear of your negative experience in Orthopaedics. As a member of UHL staff, you will know that our trust values state that ‘we treat people how we would like to be treated’ and we are sorry to hear that this value was not met on this occasion.

If you would like us to look into this further for you, please email communications@uhl-tr.nhs.uk with your full name, address, date of birth and hospital number (if known) with a reference to your review in the email subject and we will ask the service manager for this department to contact you directly.

Kind regards,

Communications Team
