I was refered to St John's for my planned C-cection. At first I was dissapointed that I wasn't able to have my baby in Edinburgh since I live just 10 min walk from the RI. But now, I am glad, as the experience was just flawless. From the scheduled tests and consultations prior to the delivery till the last minute I felt welcomed and well cared for. I was sent home with good supply of meds and confident about my breastfeeding etc. I felt that it was important for the staff to ensure my well- being all the way. My recovery was possibly as smooth as it was due to the fact that they glue your abdomen instead of stitching it up- it doesn't give you that weird pulling sensation, plus there are no stitches to remove.
I was in a room with 4 or 5 other mums and everyone was supported accordingly. Most attention was given to a mum with a premature baby. Mums who breastfed were encouraged and explained how to. Mums who bottle-fed were also supported and not forced to change their decision. Mums were arriving and going home, everyone seemed to have positive experience. We were joking about the breakfast buns- some claimed they were so good to make it worth returning for.
I am now pregnant with my 2nd now and this is my biggest regret- due to my recent move I won't be able to delived baby number 2 in St John's.
Thank you everyone- even when it was busy and hectic I felt well cared for. It was as stressless and positive experience as possible.
"Flawless experience"
