"Terrible service to an Asthmatic"

About: Failsworth Group Practice

I went to the surgery at 7.30 am Due to not being able to breath as i have asthma and i had also run out of my Ventolin inhaler and was panting for breath.

I asked if i could see a doctor asap and the lady said - NO - they had no appointments until 9.20.

I told the lady i had asthma and i couldn't breath . She just said nothing till 9.20.

I am absolutely disgusted that they didn't even offer me anything let alone a Ventolin inhaler prescription . They didn't say anything to reassure me or even ask if i would be ok having to wait till 9.20 .

If i went to A&E they would see me straight away - but i didn't want to waist there time so i wen to the doctors .

Disgusting !! Disgusted !!

Thank you for your comment posted on 8th January 2018.

I have discussed your comment with the receptionists that dealt with your request earlier today and understand that at 7.45am you was offered the first available book on the day appointment for 8.50am, to which you expressed that you was unable to attend as you had to be somewhere.

You then proceeded to request an appointment for after 12.00pm.

An appointment for 12.20pm was then offered to you, which you chose to take.

Shortly afterwards at 8.15am, you returned to the Practice and asked if you could have the original appointment offered at 8.50am.

Unfortunately this appointment had by then been taken so you was offered the next available appointment at 9.30am.

At no point did you inform the receptionists that you couldn't breath.

I must also point out that our reception team are not medically trained and therefore are unable to make a decision on what relevant treatment you may require, hence, a Ventolin Inhaler was not requested.

I am extremely disappointed that you have chosen to anonymously add a comment on NHS choices that is not a factual account of the events that took place at Failsworth Group Practice earlier today and I feel that this gives an incorrect and unfair impression of our reception team.

Our primary focus at Failsworth Group Practice is to ensure that the medical needs of our patients are met and I am in no doubt that your request was dealt with efficiently and appropriately.

I am keen to discuss this further with you and I would be grateful if you could contact myself at the practice as soon as possible.

With thanks

Melanie Cheadle
