"Accident and Emergency feedback"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Accident and emergency

My husband was admitted to the A & E Department after collapsing, becoming unconscious and suffering breathing difficulties.

The service provided by EMAS from start to finish was absolutely first class and the paramedics who attended were very skilled at dealing with the emergency and providing information and support for myself which was very much appreciated.

The A&E Department was incredibly busy but all the staff we came into contact with over a lengthy period of time were exceptionally helpful and professional at all times.

The A&E staff worked very impressively as a team throughout and patients were regularly monitored to ensure their well-being whilst waiting for treatment.

There wasn't sufficient room for the trollies in the central waiting area so staff were frequently moving heavy trollies about to make room for others which must have been on top of their normal duties.

The managers, doctors, nurses, support staff and administrative staff are to be highly commended for providing an emergency service which must be amongst the best in the country.

This was particularly impressive because they had to manage the care of so many patients in a very overcrowded department.

In short, the staff were amazing!

Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch. Our Emergency Department staff will appreciate your feedback. It has been an incredibly challenging week for staff working in our Emergency Department and across our hospitals.

Our staff have showed great professionalism, dedication and teamwork, in very difficult circumstances and have prioritised delivering safe care to patients. We do everything we can to avoid overcrowding in the department, however, the unprecedented demand on our emergency services since Christmas has meant that on occasions patients were cared for in an environment that was far from that we would wish, for which we apologise.

We hope your husband is now recovering well and we send our best wishes.

Jane Newton

Matron, Emergency Department
