When my waters broke I was advised to stay at RBH due to previous issues. I began to shiver in the night and was informed by the on duty midwife that "you are not a priority so don't expect anything to happen soon tomorrow" she acknowledged the shaking was not normal but ignored me. My temperature was taken once and then I was left as they said I was resting. When I complained about reduced fetal movement nothing was done for a while. The shaking was caused by sepsis which was spreading to my baby from me, he was moving less as he was in distress. I went from not being a priority to being rushed through for an emergency cesarean that morning, when the shifts had changed.
The midwifes and surgeons that carried out my emergency c section were brilliant. But it's a shame that their great work has been tainted by somebody who was not busy that night and spent most of her time starring at her computer screen rather than acknowledging my concerns.
What I also find quite shocking is that I did email the hospital and was informed to write and post my complaint. The NHS should be making this process easier as they cater for people from all communities.
