"Excellent treatment re my severely autistic son"

About: The Maidstone Hospital / Accident and emergency

My son has severe, non-verbal autism. Today (6/1/18 - 3/4pm) we brought him to Maidstone hospital a&e with an infected splinter in his foot. This had been causing him a lot of discomfort and had become dangerous due to the infection. It is very difficult to take Marcus to clinical settings as he becomes very anxious and agitated very easily.

We were so pleased and so grateful for the prompt and excellent care and attention we received for Marcus. We cannot thank the brilliant doctor enough who removed the splinter and organised for blood tests and a tetanus booster for him.

We also had assistance throughout from a gentleman. He stayed with us the whole time and helped to reassure and prevent Marcus from moving whilst the doctor was removing the splinter. Thank you.

Thank you to all of the nursing staff and everyone involved who assisted and made this anxiety ridden experience as smooth and comfortable as possible for Marcus. We are incredibly grateful.

Marcus's mum and Marcus's sister.)

Dear Alex and Bianca

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at Maidstone Hospital's Accident and Emergency department. We were so pleased to read that Marcus's condition was recognised and that the staff took care to reassure him and make his experience as calm as possible. We will certainly pass on your thanks to the Matron for the department to share with the staff. With kind regards, the PALS team
