"Great staff in October 2017"

About: St Michael's Hospital / Maternity care

I was induced on 25th October 2017. I am from Cardiff and my baby was diagnosed with a heart condition antenatally and therefore required to be born at st Michael’s.

I was very nervous at first having to travel away from home to deliver my baby but I was put at ease the moment we arrived.

We were shown around beforehand, my partner was also allowed to stay and he was also provided with a bed and blankets to allow him to stay too. The midwives were fantastic and went out of their way to help.

When going down to the delivery suite I was really nervous as when my daughter was born I had quite a traumatic birth which resulted in forceps so I really didn’t want this to happen again.

Throughout my labour my midwives were fantastic. They put the radio on, got me drinks and food and made me feel so at ease. I was so worried about my son being born blue or not breathing (due to his heart condition) but the angels in disguise (the NICU team) were there waiting for his arrival ready to sort him out!!

My labour and delivery was really successful and I delivered my little boy with just gas and air and had a very successful birth and I truly believe that this was down to the amazing staff as I couldn’t have done it without them.

The only thing I would say though is that after I had delivered the catering man walked into the room to ask what food I wanted, he didn’t ask to come in or anything and I did feel slightly uncomfortable, but I wouldn’t let that reflect on the care I’ve had prior to this.

Once my son was born the midwives got me up and showered and then took me to NICU to see my baby. They really were very good and it was a huge difference to the birth of my daughter. Thank you!
