I was induced last week at 40+10 as there was no sign of spontaneous labour occurring. after a quick examination in the Westburn Ward, the midwife realised I could go right to the labour ward to have my waters broken. Once a space became available on the labour ward, I was introduced to a lovely young midwife called Eilish. This was late on in the afternoon at about 5pm. Eilish had me on the heart trace for about an hour and then broke my waters around 6pm. Eilish kept me informed throughout and was very reassuring and kept me calm throughout this process. At around 6:50pm just prior to the 7pm shift changeover, Eilish brought in the midwife who would be looking after me once Eilish finished at 7. To my absolute delight, this midwife was Kylie, the same midwife who had delivered my previous baby back in 2014. What are the chances! Kylie has an absolute heart of gold and I felt so grateful to be in her care that I instantly relaxed. I knew I was expecting a bigger baby and had been receiving additional scans and check ups due to this. I was aware there were potentially going to be complications during delivery, but despite this Kylie kept me informed at every stage, ensuring I was fully aware of what might happen. I was started on the oxytocin drip at around 8:30pm and then had some time on the birthing ball before the contractions became more intense around 11pm, by which time I felt more comfy on the bed. My baby boy was born at 2:12am, weighing 9lbs 12oz, delivered by Kylie.
Despite me being absolutely terrified of being induced, this was an extremely positive birthing experience and the care I received was excellent throughout.
Although I didn't get to spend much time with Eilish, she was such a lovely midwife and she will have a great future in midwifery ahead of her.
As for Kylie, what can I say, she is an incredible asset to Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, such a loving and caring individual who deserves as much credit and praise as possible.
Thank you to all at Aberdeen Maternity who looked after me with the greatest level of care throughout my stay.
"Greatest level of care"
