"Our experience at QMC"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My elderly mother-in-law was admitted to the A and E Resus. Dept. early in the evening with a diagnosis of pneumonia. It was clear from the early assessment and monitoring that she was very ill. My wife and her sisters were gently prepared to expect their mother's death which happened around 2am.

We would like to express our thanks to all the staff involved, both in the Resus unit and the Lynn Jarett Unit, for their professional and compassionate care throughout the night. At every stage, we were kept fully informed, options were explained carefully and sympathetically.

Despite A and E being extremely busy, the staff found my mother-in-law a quiet place in the Lynn Jarett unit and she died peacefully and with dignity,

I am so sorry I cannot name the staff involved but I would like to pass on to them that we could not have received better care, despite the pressure they were all under that night.  Many thanks for your professionalism and kindness.

I send my condolences to you and your family. Thank you so much for taking the time to get in touch, especially at this difficult time. I have shared your kind words with staff in A&E and the Lyn Jarrett Unit who asked me to let you know that their thoughts are with you and your family.

Kind regards,

Clare Mayfield,

Ward Sister, Accident and Emergency Department
