I was sent to county Hospital A&E by my GP due to pain from an accident a few weeks ago.
On arrival my details were taken by a woman in the office with the minimum of fuss even though they all were rushed off their feet. I was treated with courtesy. I waited for around an hour to see the triage nurse (my condition wasn’t urgent). Once again I was treated with courtesy. I was told to go down to X-ray. The nurse was rushed off her feet and looked like she was having a hard day at work due to the amount of patients they were having to see.
I waited there for 10-15 minutes until my name was called. Once again I was treated with courtesy by the radiologist and had everything explained to me by her. She too was rushed off her feet. I was sent back to A&E reception to wait to see the original nurse. I was told what my problems were and told to book an appointment with the fracture clinic and then I could go home.
Whether it a policy to gradually close the A&E dept at Stafford I don’t know but they seem seriously understaffed. The women in reception were really run off their feet but treated everyone with courtesy and a smile.
The nurses were understaffed dealt with the patients very professionally and with courtesy, and the same goes with the X-ray staff.
Stafford hospital has a brilliant A&E team from receptionists through to nurses and doctors, be very careful not to lose them through burn out as it would be a serious loss. More staff are required to avoid this.
I can’t thank everyone involved enough
