I have recently been diagnosed with gallbladder dysfunction. I have and still am experiencing a horrendous amount of pain over the past year and a half with it. I have had to wait from Feb 2016 until December 2017 for my final diagnosis. During that time I had bloods done an ultrasound and a HIDA scan done. The problem was the waiting times of these tests to be carried out, they took months inbetween and it also took further months to see a gastroenterologist at QEUH. I have visited the doctor relentlessly as the pain has had me collapsed to my knees in agony with pain at home and at work. I have attended out of hours and also A+E at RAH four times as the pain has been unbearable. A+E were of no help in terms of helping me as my pain is not classed as an emergency therefore I was told I would need to wait to see my specialist, therefore I was sent home with painkillers which didn't help.
I have been unable to work for any length of time over the past year and have now been placed on half pay which is not feasible for me, this in turn is causing me a great amount of stress. I may also lose my job as a result of long term sickness due to all of the pain and waiting for appointments. I am now currently waiting to see a surgeon for discussion of removal of the gallbladder, although I fear I may have to wait for months before anything can be done, therefore it may be to late for me to keep my job, if my pain continues on a daily basis. I am very grateful for my doctors continued support. I grateful also to my current gastroenterologist at New Victoria for providing me with a diagnosis and for providing a caring nature. However, I feel some improvement is needed regarding waiting times, although I fully appreciate that there are thousands of patients and limited staff available.
