I want to tell you about the care my mum received in both A&E and ward 20 Surgical receiving in the RAH, NHS GGC.
She was admitted via A&E with severe abdominal pain. A&E was very busy and staff had a lot of competing demands however despite this they remained attentive and empathetic towards mums needs and requirements.
She was subsequently admitted to ward 20 where it became apparent that she had an inoperable condition and had limited time to live. She was moved to a single room where the family could come and go without disturbing anyone. Despite the pressing demands of a busy surgical receiving ward, each and every member of staff provided her with the exemplary nursing care. Not only dealing with the needs of the patient but were helpful and supportive to of all family members constantly in attendance.
The domestic staff that came in to clean the room were also very sensitive to the situation. The doctor who broke the news could not have done this any better. Difficult news is hard to hear and he did it with such sensitivity, compassion and kindness whilst being very real to the situation. The nurses were outstanding and one in particular (Lynn) exemplifies what nursing is all about. All family members commented on the high standard of care and compassion. Pain relief was well managed too.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, you all contributed to making this the best it could be in the circumstances.
