"Waiting for hours for pa6"

About: Leicester General Hospital / General medicine

Having waited almost 24 hours for a non emergency ambulance for my father in law. He finally arrived at the leicester general. Having been told there was a Bed for him there was still a long wait for this frail 84 year-old man. 2 days of intravenous antibiotics and he was told he could come home. His 83 year old wife was then taken over to collect him and so began the 10 hour wait for a doctor.

One did not turn up and finally following a conversation with a very overworked nurse, we just bought dad home. What a total let down.

Dear reviewer,

We are incredibly sorry to hear about your father-in-law's recent experience. Unfortunately, our NHS services continue to be very busy and this can result in long waits which is never what we want our patients and their families to experience. We hope that the care he received was of a high standard, despite the waits.

If you would like us to investigate this in more detail, please send further information (name, DOB, hospital ward, doctor name etc) to communications@uhl-tr.nhs.uk and we will liaise with the service for you.

Best wishes
