"White coat syndrome"

I developed white coat syndrome some years ago. Every time a nurse in a central Birmingham hospital took my blood pressure she would say "its high high high today you're not going home". Because of this experience when anyone, apart from my gp (who I can just about tolerate taking my BP after many years) comes near me with a BP machine my BP rockets. Some time ago I had to see a specialist at the same hospital. I told him that I suffered badly with white coat syndrome, his response,” it’s a good job that I am not wearing a white coat then" very helpful!
