"9 broken bones but no pain relief"

About: Chelsea & Westminster Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

I was admitted from morning outpatients with 9 broken bones following a fall from a ladder with a view top operating on me. By 9pm I had had no food at all or painkillers and was told I would be seen in the morning. I asked for food and was given an egg sandwich. I am allergic to egg. When I asked for something else I was not offered anything this was now 24 hours without food.

I left the hospital in my patient gown and went to a restaurant to eat as the hospital luckily is on a road served by restaurants.

During the night I was crying for pain relief. I had 9 broken bones 8 ribs and my clavicle. I repeatedly rang and was not offered anything at all. I even phoned myself the anaesthetist on call. I was groaning and crying in pain throughout the night. This was not only awful for me but I felt this was distressing for all the other patients as well.

I feel this lack of pain relief was inhumane to the point of cruelty. I was completely disgusted and by morning frantic with pain. I did not receive any pain relief at all for 40 hours following my accident.

The rest of my treatment at this hospital was excellent. However I think the ward staff should be disciplined for this incident.
