"Doctors on nights???!!!!"

About: Heartlands Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

Pain relief? Or lack of!!!! As I sit here watching my mum in agony and crying for pain relief I wonder how much longer she will wait........ one would think analgesia would be a priority and of utmost importance on an orthopedic ward but you are wrong.

Having already had discussions with the ward doctors during the day regarding appropriate analgesia I had imagined it would already be prescribed ready for when it was required...how foolish of me.

Despite those discussions the analgesia was not written up, so when my mum needed it over two hours ago, the nurses informed the 'one and only' trauma and orthopedic doctor covering the wards aswell as A&E... we are still waiting.... how on earth could this be acceptable in this day and age? Surely Mr Chief Executive you should be addressing your safe staffing issues as a priority; God forbid you should ever break your femur and have to wait this long for something as basic as analgesia!!!!!!

Dear Relative,

Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your posting.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your mother’s care and treatment at Heartlands Hospital.

I am very sorry that there was a delay in your mother receiving pain relief, as I appreciate she would have been in extreme pain with a broken femur.

If you would be willing to provide further details such as your mother’s name, address and date of birth, together with your contact details, as a Trust, we would welcome the opportunity to review your mother’s care.

You can do this by contacting a member of the Patient Services Team on 0121 424 0808 or you can email your concerns to bhs-tr.Complaints-ConcernsandCompliments@nhs.net who can then take the necessary action.

If you do contact our team, can I please ask you to advise the member of staff that you are responding to your NHS Choices Posting.

I will forward your posting to the senior management teams for A&E and Trauma and Orthopaedic so they aware of your comments.

I will ask that your posting is shared with the staff, so they are also aware of your mother’s experience.

Once again thank you for taking the time to provide your comments.

All feedback is important to us whether it is positive or negative, as this helps the Trust to improve our services and make changes where necessary.

Regards

Miss J. Langham

Patient Services Officer
