"Brilliant service on Christmas Day"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency Crosshouse Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat

(as a service user),

En route for Christmas Dinner with Family in Glasgow, my wife suffered a severe nosebleed which we couldn’t stop, so we made a hasty diversion to A&E at Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock. The A&E staff were brilliant, as was the ENT SHO (Dr Begg or Beck), who eventually managed to staunch the flow for a sufficient time to locate and cauterise the bleeding point.

Not the best way to spend Christmas, but we felt very well looked after. Many thanks to all concerned.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear VisitorsFromThe South,

I am delighted that you felt well looked after during your unscheduled stop at Crosshouse on Christmas day. I am sorry your Christmas day was high jacked but I hope you did get to Glasgow eventually and had a lovely Christmas dinner in the end. Hopefully this event didn't spoil your day entirely. Thank you for sharing this on Care Opinion.

Best wishes,

Eunice

Dear VisitorsfromtheSouth,

Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback. I'm pleased that our ENT colleagues were able to stop the bleeding and I hope you made your Christmas dinner on time!

I have passed on your comments to the doctors who looked after you in A&E. It really does help boost morale particularly during this busy festive period.

Wishing you all the best for 2018.

Claire

Update posted by VisitorsFromThe South (a service user)

I’m afraid that the last thing my wife felt like, once she had been discharged, was roast turkey and all the trimmings! Whilst ENT was making sure she was fit for discharge, I made a quick dash to Busby and demolished a full (albeit very late) Christmas Dinner in record time, before dashing back to Crosshouse: my wife had to make do with a “doggy bag” for Boxing Day! Unfortunately, we both then succumbed to ghastly chest infections, from which we are only just emerging, blinking, into the light of 2018. A memorable Christmas, but not entirely for the best of reasons! It was, however, good to be reminded that others have to work while the rest of us are enjoying festive season - and manage to do so both cheerfully and caringly. I do hope the remainder of their shifts were not too ghastly!
