"Absolutely shocking service"

About: Shakespeare Medical Practice

I had to visit the walk in centre on Christmas day as I suffer from recurrent tonsillitis and my tonsils were so swollen I could now swallow and could barely speak. Although I was seen quickly, the female doctor I saw was the most unhelpful I have ever encountered in my life! She asked me my symptoms while she was doing something else on her computer and obviously wasn't listening. She checked my mouth and told me that although me tonsils were very swollen and had pus on them, she didn't want to prescribe me anything.

Why? She then proceeded to tell me about some ancient study of 1000 people with tonsillitis and how they reacted to antibiotics. I was shocked. I have frequent infections like this and any time I tried to explain how severely ill I can get, her only answer was in relation to this study. When I asked her how I am expected to start a new job in two days time when I can barely speak, she just accused me of being rude and "shouting" at her, even though the outside receptionist verified she heard no raised voices. I am now severely ill and having breathing difficulties and I am being left to suffer just because this useless doctor believes in some ancient study and doesn't think I know my own body. I will be putting in an official complaint against this useless doctor in the meantime.

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns. Feedback is important as it allows us to improve the services we provide. Having spoken to the clinician involved - it appears there are conflicting versions of these events. I am informed that you swore at the clinician when she was trying to explain the reason that anti-biotics were not indicated, and as with all NHS organisations, we have a zero tolerance to staff being abused. We will be more than happy to look into your concerns further should you chose to make a formal complaint.
