Arrived at A&E at 7pm after 5 hour wait with fractured and dislocated knee on floor.
Seen at midnight. Staff suggested mri scan. Spent from 1am until 5 pm on the corridor in main outside x ray. So nearly 23 hours from arrival until ward admittance.
Hundreds of staff simply ignoring me.
Head of department arrived with gifts for staff including pandora gift. Didn't stop to enquire as to how I was.
So now 24 hours without sleep. Transferred to nice medical ward. Settled down to sleep at one am. Was the awoken and transferred to ward 35. So, then staff started clattering around at 6am.
Night staff seem very angry if questioned or asked to do anything.
Felt very sorry for vulnerable elderly staff. Screaming shouting woman put in bed next to me.
Apparently staff on other ward not watching her and she had broken femur. Lady changed every half hour as bleeding out. So from 12pm until 2 am no doctors bothered to see her.
Then at 2 am all lights on and 2 doctors giving her blood.
I said they've had all day and they do it at 2 am.
I decided to leave ward, but staff wouldn't help me. Took away Zimmer so had to use stitch to hobble out of ward. Nasty nurse on phone telling someone, they weren't letting me leave. Matron appeared hour later looked like they had just woke up. Only wanted me to sign paper to say they weren't responsible if I fell getting out. I refused to sign.
Very terrifying experience. My sister came and got me with a wheelchair and a lovely taxi man got us home. So 24 hours nearly to get to a ward, and when want to go, they only want you to sign so their arses are covered.
Day staff much better than night staff. So didn't get mri scan as promised by consultant, will pay private as have no faith in that hospital told by one of staff that there was not enough money in world to be a patient there.
I can only say most patients said preston hospital of preference.
I would say have someone with you as much as possible looking out for your welfare. Plus pain relief seems to be paracetamol, so seems cheap.
My advice is avoid at all costs, staff at night run it like a nursing home, lights out at 9. So I think they run it for their own ease. Avoid ward 35 and A&E.
