Was induced on 12/10/2017. Delivered on 14/10/2017.
Maternity ward care was very good, most of nurses were very helpful and caring. Highly recommend.
Different story is with the Delivery Suite.First room given (yellow) looked and smelled of dirt and sweat. Spider was walking near by the bed on the wall. There was no window there. No air conditioning. Could not breathe there. Luckily, managed to change to the other one (still no windows but no spiders, no disgusting smell. Had a birthing ball borrowed from the Day Room Maternity ward. No rocking chair, no birth mat, just a chair at the bed (used by my partner only when not occupied by a midwife). 3 midwifes within 6 hours due to “busy time”.
I didn’t feel listened to, my choices were not respected, one midwife going in and out even during active labour, no birthing equipment in the room; was refused to be examined before the drip, was refused to be examined before the epidural (was nearly fully dilated when had it attempted). After 2 hours of active unsuccessful delivery and begging for the doctor to come and for ventouse, the doctor was called by a midwife. With the doctor the second midwife came. My placenta was binned without my consent.
Luckily, with doctors help, baby and I survived.
I am sure there are very good midwives there. Just hope that this review will encourage the reflective practice for the staff and much needed improvements to the facilities, equipment, cleanliness and staff respecting and listening to a patient on the Delivery Suite.
