"Do not stay at this hospital!"

What I liked

I was rushed into DRI as an emergency through A&E - the Doctor and Nurse who attended to me in A&E were fantastic - I was in an extreme amount of pain, very scared and upset and they were amazing - very caring and reassuring making sure I knew what was happening at all times. I was away from home (I live in Northamptonshire) so was extremely scared and my poor partner didn't know what to do, but the A&E staff were fantastic. This is where the excellence stopped - when I was admitted to G5 in the Women & Childrens Hospital.

What could be improved

I was treated constantly like an inconvenience - the nurse in charge and the 3 doctors I saw were rude, insulting, inconsistant and completely uninterested. I have severe Endometriosis, which results in massive amounts of pain - so bad that I have morphine at home for self administration. I was told on seperate occasions that I was putting on the amount of pain, that I was wasting doctors and nurses time, I had medication withheld when I should have had it, I overheard on three seperate occasions Nurses discussing me in a public area in an extremely unprofessional and rude manner. My partner also overheard a Junior doctor and nurse making an outrageously rude comment about my physical appearance. I made 3 complaints during my 5 day stay, which ended up in me being moved from G5 - the gynae ward to a MAternity ward ... which was so upsetting and insensitive, given that I am currently waiting for a hysterectomy!

The staff were unconcerned when i complained of extreme pain, sickness and other symptoms. I was refused strong painkillers basically (As i over heard a nurse saying) to see if I was faking it or not!

I had a senior doctor telling me I was imagining my pain, using up a bed for no reason and that I was being childish! This was after a junior doctor told me I was only in so much pain because I was over weight! Absolutely disgusted with the way I and my partner were treated. Witnessed other ladies in the ward being left screaming and crying over night whilst the nursing staff were no where to be seen and constantly ignoring the patient buzzers.

I made 3 complaints during my stay, all of which were pretty much ignored and I was again told I was over egging the pudding and making a fuss about nothing!

Complaint currently going into the PCT - I would never advise anyone to chose to stay at Doncaster Women & Children's Hospital unless you enjoy being victimised and being treated worse than an animal!

Anything else?

Doctors seperately told me plans to be operated on, that i was being sent home immediately, and then that i was being kept in for observation - to then be told on each occasion my nurses that i was lying about my condition!

Disgusted doesn't even cover this!
