My mother was admitted to QE University Hospital’s Stroke Unit at the end of November. The care she received there was excellent.
The problems occurred when she was transferred to Langlands Elderly Care Unit. I cannot fault her nursing care but the cleanliness of the ward left a lot to be desired. My father was there for 9 hrs every day and barely saw any cleaning staff. As 6 patients share one toilet in the ward I feel that it should be cleaned frequently. Weekends were worst of all where Ward 57 seemed to be short staffed in all areas eg. nursing and HCW’s. As a result of this uncleanliness both my husband and I contracted Norovirus and were extremely ill.
Considering we had only spent time with Mum in the ward and had been nowhere else during that period it is a fair assumption to say that we contracted it on the ward. I feel the Facilities Manager need to be made aware of the unhygenic conditions within the ward and visitor toilet areas.
