About: Darent Valley Hospital

What I liked

I am a patient at this hospital since middle of summer of last year. Urologist suspested me to have kidneys problems and I had several tests, however, only on 30 of December 2010, when I had a strong pain attack, I got confirmation that I have 8 mm stone in my left kidney. Must say I had IVU test on 06/12/10, but results I received middle of January 2011 only. On 11/01/11 stent was placed in my ureter.Doctor did not explain what side effects might be. He told me that I can come back to work next day...It is absolute nonsense... Since then I am in permanent pain and constantly taking painkillers. On 14/01/11 I had EWSL which was unsuccessful. I was awaiting for another treatment confirmation for few weks. I was delivered back to hospital few times because I had alergic reaction to antybiotics and sometimes pain is just unbearable. However, at A&E I am getting just new painkillers...Also would like to mentione that when I had alergic reaction and was delivered to hospital at around 4pm, doctor at Urgent care department checked me at 8pm only... as there was one doctor only! Since January I hardly sleep at least 4 hours per night because of pain. However, few weeks ago I got confirmation that next operation will be on 21st of february. But yesterday I got a letter that it must be postponed till 25th of feb. I can understand, when you are not in pain, it seems short period, but when you are in pain and cannot sleep, have at least kind of normal life...I already sent a letter to complaint department about my situation. Here I am writing to let people know that this hospital is not that nice inside as it looks outside...

What could be improved

When patient is in danger, emergency service is excellent, but when danger passes, you are just left alone ...no care at all from doctor side..PainkillersDoctorsComplaintsEmergencyOpening hoursPatient careService

Please accept my apologies for the distressing and painful time you have had with your kidney problems. I do hope that your operation proceeds later this week and I hope that this will resolve your problems.

In the meanwhile, I have passed your comments on to the urology team so that they are aware. I note you say you have made a formal complaint - if you have not received a response yet, please contact me directly using the e mail address below, giving me your name, and I will chase this response for you. (I note your comment is anonymous).
