About: Royal United Hospital

What I liked

The pre operative service given at the RUH was brilliant.

Having already had several procedures over the years they were all carried out in Military Hospitals' so this was my first 'experience' of major surgery under the NHS. The whole experience once surgery was to be my only option can only be described as most helpful and informative. From my Consultant / Registrar/ right through the chain to each clinic/ pre op staff through to theday of my operation. I met almost everyone who was to be involved. Each one explained what would be happening to me and possible outcomes. I was also prepared for the 'not so good ' outcomes from the Macmillan nurse to the Stoma nurse. Although 'scary' it was good to face what may happen and to have the support at the ready if required. This meant a lot to me as I knew that if needed, the people who mattered would be there for me when I woke up.

Fortunately, my operation went to plan so I needed just the 'normal' aftercare.

May I also mention the team/s involved at the diagnosis stages, as they were also excellent and again very informative at every step.

Thank you so much to everyone for being so nice. I am well on the way to a full recovery.IleostomySurgeryServiceConsultantsDiagnosis
