Referral was accepted for an urgent Eye appointment. I had to contact the dept when I did not get a phone call as promised but was then offered an immediate appt.
The patient in front of me came out of the Consultant's office saying "well that was a waste of time"
The Consultant did not leave his desk to greet me and his first words were " why didn't you go to Moorfields.
He hurt my eye on examination and prescribed medication that the subsequent Moorfields Consultant believed were unhelpful and as I understood it,dangerous as they could cause Glaucoma
His parting shot was to say "if it gets worse go to Moorfields". Not much of a recommendation for yourself!
If the Consultant did not want to see me why did he accept the referral "under suffrance"
It was a very unpleasant experience and would not recommend this service.
Readers also need to be away that they only operate strictly during office hours despite WGH having a 24hour A&E dept.
