"Never visiting here again."

About: Leighton Hospital / Accident and emergency

,

I am absolutely disgusted by the care and service in the A&E department. Totally unprofessional and have a lack of knowledge, empathy and general care. We came in about quarter past 5 on a Saturday night so we expected it to be extremely busy as this was not my first visit to a&e. First off all we saw the nurse within half an hour which was excellent. She examined the wound and sent us for an x-ray and for it to be cleaned out. This is were my first issue is. The person whom had been injured had been playing football and was two footed. The wound should have been cleaned out and re-bandaged to help eliminate the risk of infection. After this we sat around for a couple of hours and he was still bleeding. So I went and asked a nurse if we could have some scissors or if she could cut a knee support off to help make the individual in question more comfortable. She yanked the knee support down onto the wound knocking it and causing the individual to be in more pain. She just said that will help and walked off. No apology for making the situation more painful. After 6 hours of waiting to go down to minors, the bandage have bled through. So I, myself went and asked the reception if she knew how much longer it would take. She said that there were five more patients in front, I asked her if it was possible for us to have another bandage, to prevent blood leaking onto the floor. She simply said she would find out for us. Before we found out if we could have a bandage we were called down to minor injuries. We were seen by the doctor whom removed the dirty bandage to inspect the wound. He simply asked a few questions about allergies and if the patient had any pain killers. He then just walked out of the room without telling us what was happening. We waited for around twenty minutes, then I asked a member of staff if she knew where the doctor had gone she said that the doctor had gone to get some x-rays for the patient. In which I replied okay I was just asking as we had not been told. I then went back into the partitioned room and sat with the patient and my friend. We were then just talking about how they should have probably offered the patient a drink as he been injured during a football game therefore his fluids would have been lower than expected anyway, and he had been bleeding for over 6 hours. The member of staff then came into the room and starting speaking in a very aggressive and threatening tone. She said that they had been very busy and that I myself should shut up complaining as I was the only person who had complained all day. The patient then said excuse me what did you say, she did not say that it was the himself and the friend who was there. The member of staff then said that she knew it was me as my voice was the only one in which she recognised. First of all my issue here is the unprofessional and aggressive behaviour of this particular staff member. They also failed to realise that the patient needed stitches. This shouldn't have been missed. What a joke.
