My uncle sadly passed away on in November of this year, in ward 1 Monklands hospital. Although I was very sad, his illness and subsequent death was made so much easier by all the fantastic staff there but in particular:
Rae, Colin and Alison.
They will tell you, “we are just doing our job” however I’m sorry I disagree.
Making the last few weeks of someone’s life easier and more comfortable, making them feel valued and cared for while doing what needed to be done to try to make them well again is much more than just doing your job. It made so much difference to us to know he was being taken care of so well, and although they were always professional and trying to do whatever they could using all their experience to help him - it was the care shown while doing this that made the difference. The support given to us the family helped so much. It made me confident he was in the best place and getting the best treatment and no one could have done more .
The dialysis unit in Monklands is a credit to the NHS.
My uncle had attended the renal unit for about seven years and was cared for so well, primarily by Margaret, Amanda, Yvonne, Kirsty and Donna and I’m sure many others Alan SCN is an inspiration, as to have such a happy staff clearly makes such a difference even Caroline the cleaner while scrubbing away under the bed etc chatting away to my uncle having got to know him over the years and telling us how much she loves working there and it shows... as it does with the rest of the staff there.
Professionalism, hard work and humanity.
That’s what I’ve seen in the time I’ve spent there and I want people to know about it. People are so quick now to complain and never take time out to praise people when they go above and beyond particularly in the NHS.
Well I’m taking the time because it made all the difference to me.
