My mother was brought to the hospital by ambulance due to an infection. She is 80 years old and has renal failure. She managed to bring her phone and charger to ensure contact with her family. While being moved by a porter her drip was ripped out and complications ensued when attempts were made to reinstate it. She was moved to another ward in the middle of the night where her phone charger was lost. The last call we had from her she was upset and depressed. All we can do is now is call the ward direct where we are told she's fine, knowing that is not the case. When I called the ward yesterday to ask if any attempt had been made to trace the phone charger I was met with sarcasm and a rude and defensive attitude. My mother now has no communication with her family and is on a ward with no TV or phone facility. I am appalled at the attitude I have encountered from ward staff. I genuinely believe that everyone is entitled to respect ,including NHS staff but that can only happen when your staff understand the meaning of respect and drop the arrogant attitude when challenged about something that is clearly not acceptable. Once communication has become strained the best solution offered was to drag my sick mother out of bed to come to the phone. This is appalling!! To be frank I get a far more professional service and better care when I take my cat to the vet.
"Poor care and communication"
