"Operation cancelled"

About: Basildon University Hospital

My husband went into hospital on 6th December to have a operation but was told the operation as been cancelled due to no bed . Now he has to wait till the end of January the operation he is waiting for is a major one . This as caused both of us a lot of stress took holidays from work so I could care for him once he comes home , I think this is disgraceful. Putting patients under this pressure.

What the hell is going on at basildon hospital .

We are very sorry that your husband's surgery had to be cancelled on the day, however this was due to the requirement for a higher dependency bed post operatively which was unavailable. We did everything possible to provide this level of care but ultimately for the safety of the patient we had to cancel the surgery.

Due to the nature of the surgery and the surgeon and theatre required the new date provided was the first available date. If you would like to talk to a senior member of the Surgical Divisional management team this can be arranged.

To do so, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01268 524900 Ext 4440 or email pals@btuh.nhs.uk.
