"horrified"

About: Leighton Hospital / Accident and emergency

My daughter was assessed by the ambulance at 22h00 and a 1.30am dr. appointment at Leighton was arranged as she was too ill to sit in a waiting room for hours.

On seeing her at 1.30am, the gp said she needed to be admitted under observation and scanned as well as having a drip administered as she was dehydrating through vomiting 19 hours straight with pain.

The nurse at A&E could not find a vein so there was no relief for my child. I asked for an ante nausea/pain injection for her to give some relief and was told we don't do that.

Four hours later I asked what the delay was..(we had also been stuck in a cubicle and ignored).I was told my daughter had to wait another 3 hours (minimum providing no more ambulances arrived),she was not being admitted and was not even on the list for a scan.

A very bored nurse did inform me after I asked, that there was only blood and protein in her urine.

Their manner was most dismissive.

Disgusted..I am still nursing her at home where she has not left her bed in 6 days.

We apologise that your experience in the GP Out of Hours service and the Emergency Department was anything less than satisfactory. From reading your concerns please contact the customer care team on 01270 612410 so that I can fully investigate this
