"Gastric upset"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Emergency Medicine NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I received a hamper from my bank as a "I'm sorry you had bad service from us". I ate a few pieces of luxury chocolate which brought on a severe bout of heartburn.

After 2 hours of constant pain and having done all home remedies to relieve the pain, with no avail, I called 111.

The person dealing with me recommended that paramedics be sent out to assess me. They arrived within 20 minutes.

After an EKG and a anti-sickness injection and on the advice from the paramedics that I be checked out at the hospital, I was taken down to the ambulance.

I was given small doses of strong painkillers on entering the ambulance and just before going in A&E.

I was immediately put on a painkilling drip to take my pain levels down.

I was mainly looked after by Maura & Jamie and would like to thank them for the care they gave me.

The staff overall were extremely efficient but not intrusive.

I was in A& E about 4 1/2 hours and feel I was well looked after

Hi Mojo7264

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion. I was sorry to hear that your heartburn was so painful that you required to attend hospital. I am sure this would have been a worrying time and I wish you well.

Your story is good example of services working together for the best possible outcome for the patient. It is good of you to acknowledge this. I am sure my colleagues within NHS Grampian and the Scottish Ambulance Service will be pleased to see your comments.

Should you wish to provide any specific detail to me in relation to your call to 111, then I would be delighted to hear directly from you. I can be contacted on 0141 337 4582 or by email at patientaffairs@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

I do hope that you get to enjoy all the other goodies in your hamper! I also hope you have a lovely xmas and new year.

Dear mojo7264,

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch through Care Opinion!

I am sorry to learn of your feeling unwell and an admission to hospital.

I am delighted to read that you received good care from the ambulance crew when they assessed you and also during your journey to hospital. Our crews work extremely hard to provide the very best of care to all our patients.

I hope you have made a full recovery!

I would like to pass on your feedback to the crew. To enable me to identify the crew, can I ask if you would be able to call the admin team on 01224 812200 to pass on some additional information?

I hope you have a great Christmas and all the very best for 2018!

Kind regards,

Euan.
