"Appalling and unprofessional"

About: Ashfield Medical Centre

Ordered a prescription for a long term illness and was told a week and a half later it had not gone through and would need to make an appointment or a phone consultation.

Explained to receptionist I could not take time off work and asked what should do. Tried to explain about withdrawal symptoms and the seriousness of the illness but they just kept repeating you'll need an appointment. I tried to explain to them again but i heard them tell their colleagues 'She's not listening so I'll just let her go on for 5 minutes'.

Waited until they came back on the phone told them that I would make a complaint and they were nonprofessional to which they responded 'You'll have to make an appointment'.

Appalling!

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback.

When a new patient joins the practice, a doctor needs to see a patient in order to review any medication the patient is on as they are taking on responsibility for prescribing.

Patients also need to have their repeat medication reviewed by a doctor annually. Doctors may also ask to see a patient if there are any concerns for example the patient appears not to be compliant in taking their medication.

These procedures are in place for the safety of patients and to ensure they are getting appropriate treatment and care for their condition(s) and that it is regularly reviewed.

Whilst we appreciate that this may mean taking time off work to attend an appointment, ensuring that the care and treatment we provide is appropriate and safe is essential and must come first.
