"The tinnitus clinic"

About: Borders General Hospital / Audiology

(as the patient),

I suffered a burst eardrum early in the year, and although it has healed, it’s left me with tinnitus as well as impaired my hearing.

I’d heard of tinnitus but had no idea of how awful, awful, awful it is and sort of sucks the joy out of living as well as stopping you from sleeping, and of course - never again hearing ‘the sound of silence’

I truly thought I couldn’t live with the constant high pitching shriek in my left ear, accompanied by a low pitched hum....24/7 - in varying degrees of volume.

Although my hearing aids help ‘mask’ the noise a little, it still drained me.

I attended the Tinnitus Clinic at the BGH a couple of weeks ago, and the compassion and kindness shown by Dawn has given me hope that in the future, I’ll be able to carry on with life as it was.

I understand it can’t be cured, but now have a glimmer of hope that in time, I’ll carry on living again.

Without that hope, I really believe I couldn’t carry on..........

The tinnitus clinic is a relatively new development within audiology at BGH. I am delighted that you found your appointment so beneficial and that I was able to make such a difference.
