"Follow up appointment in Urology to treat..."

About: Central Middlesex Hospital

Was taken to A & E on 1st November 2017 and diagnosed with kidney stone, given antibiotics to treat kidney infection and discharged.

Condition got worst and was back to A & E 2 days later, renal function affected and was admitted with insertion of stent the following day on 4th November 2017 .

On discharge, I was advised kidney stone will be treated with URS laser and consultant surgeon also stressed stent should be replaced within 4 weeks.

Then received an appointment for 14th Novembef to treat the stone with shock wave lithotripsy but also received pre-assessment for URS laser surgery.

Went round in circles to get clarification only to be informed surgery booked for 5th December 2017 at Central Middlesex Hospital.

Went to ACAD centre and all the process for surgery was in progress and X-Ray taken.

Another surgeon then advised the stone has broken a bit with shock wave lithotripsy and they would not perform URS laser.

This was despite the stone not being able to pass naturally due to its size being still large.

I enquirer about the stent to be replaced within four weeks but it was disregarded.

The surgery was cancelled and I was advised the case will be discussed at “stone meeting”but have heard nothing, whilst I am suffering from pain associated with the stone and stent.

It is nearly 6 week’s but S tent has not been replaced!

I have not been able to attend work regularly because of the pain.

Do not know what to do as have no contact details for the consultant.

I have tried calling the hospital switchboard but have been kept waiting for more than 30 minutes each time and never been put through to the consultant surgeon or their secretary.

Also, the consultant surgeon’s name does not appear on A-Z list of names of the doctors so unable to find contact details.

Communication is very poor and there is no regard for the patients.

I am very sorry to hear of your frustration with this. Can I suggest you contact our PALS team on 0208 869 5118 (they will definitely answer or reply to a voicemail) or by email on LNWH-tr.PALS@nhs.net and they will try to help.

Kind regards

Pam
