"Nurse was too busy"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / General Surgery (Wards 16-18)

(as the patient),

I was admitted to ward 18 with severe abdominal pain, my parents were with me I arrived from casualty in a lot of pain. The nurse never showed their face for about three quarters of an hour.

My father asked them for pain killers but they scolded my father in telling him that its the drs job not theirs. They then about an hour and half after I arrived in the ward took my observations.

They said I should need strong painkillers as I'm only young. That was the last they came near me overnight.

The day shift nurses couldn't do enough but my parents and myself were treated terrible with this other nurse who was too busy.

Dear s76,

I am sorry to hear that you had to be admitted to University Hospital Wishaw due to experiencing abdominal pain. I am concerned that the care and communication has not been a positive experience for you and I would also apologise for this.

I think that it may be helpful for me to investigate these issues and if you could provide me with additional information in order to give you a targeted response to the concerns that you have raised.

Could you please give the patient affairs team a call on 01698 366558 or drop the patient affairs manger an e mail at Yvonne.ross@Lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

I hope this finds you feeling better.

Best wishes

Andy
