"No diabetic nurse to cover clinic"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital (Paisley) Vale of Leven General Hospital

(as the patient),

I telephoned the Diabetic team on the normal Vale of Leven Hospital number and I left a message to which I was telephoned back by a nurse to whom I did not know and asked if I could speak with someone who I know and was told that no nurse was available to speak. I then asked this nurse if there will be any Diabetic nurse at the clinic on Tuesday and her answer was she didn't know as nurses are on holiday. Why is there no diabetic service nurses to cover the vale hospital when clinics are on?

Dear Waterloo

I was really sorry to read about your poor experience when you contacted the Diabetes Centre and I appreciate your frustrations.

It might be helpful to know that all calls to the Diabetic Service are responded to by a central team of Specialist Nurses, who are based in the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

I am afraid that the nurse who works in the Diabetic Clinic at the Vale of Leven is currently on unplanned leave. We are making every effort to provide cover and patients are able to access urgent advice by telephoning the Diabetes Centre.

Whilst I recognise this situation is not ideal, I hope it will be reassuring to know that there is a robust system in place to make sure that patients in the VOL area have access to specialist support and advice if they need it.
