"Exceptional care"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Accident and emergency Musgrove Park Hospital / Trauma & Orthopaedics

(as a service user),

I was recently admitted to Gould Ward following my admission to A&E due to falling down stairs at home. The care I received at all times was exceptional and I was kept fully informed of all procedures undertaken with regards to my broken back and punctured lung. The only exception being a nurse in A&E who was extremely brusque and devoid of any bedside manner.

Medical staff/ HCA and all other staff within the hospital were obviously working under extreme pressure and excessive hours. However, standards were not lowered in any way.

I would however like to recommend that each day patients are permitted a few minutes with a member of the medical team to explain exactly how they feel/ discuss any concerns. Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to write to us. I hope you are feeling better and on the road to recovery. I am really sorry to hear that you had a bad experience whilst in A&E with a member of staff. I would be really keen to talk to you so I can understand what happened and speak with the member of staff to make sure this doesn't happen again. This is something I take seriously as the Lead Nurse. If you are happy to ring me on 01823 342937, I an then look into this further. Many thanks, Karen.

Dear empathyxw78

I am very sorry to read about your fall, I hope that you are recovering well from your nasty injuries. I am glad to hear that you had such good care on Gould ward and that you were kept informed at all times. The medical team do try to make the time to speak to their patients as often as they are able and I am sorry that this may not have been your experience. I would also like to apologise that the behaviour of the staff member in A&E was not at the standard we would expect from our staff. Your comments will be shared with the teams and thank you for taking the time to get in touch.

With best wishes for your continued recovery

Laura
