"Humiliated"

I visited with my son who is man to female patient, upon meeting with the doctor today we felt humiliated by their scathing and condescending manner towards both me and my son/daughter because he is autistic with aspegers so couldn't openly relate with the doctor who couldn't see beyond his disability. He/she had a lot more to say but felt uncomfortable so didn't talk and reveal how he/she was feeling so therefore after only meeting for 30 minutes this doctor said they couldn't give a diagnosis and just dismissed us, this is not the rigth way to treat disabled patients at all

Dear Anonymous,

My apologies for the delay in responding to you, but thank you for taking the time to post on the site as we are grateful for all feedback received.

The account you've given isn't the standard I would expect any of my colleagues to deliver nor any user of the service to experience.

I've spoken to the Clinical Operations Manager for the service, who was also very disappointed.

Please let me assure you that providing quality care is what we are here for and that is inclusive of being able to meet individual needs.

I'm really sorry to hear of your experience and I'd really appreciate it if you could contact us so that we can look into your concerns fully. You raise some issues that I would really like to be given the opportunity to explore further.

Please could you can make direct contact with the Gender Identity Service, by emailing gid.lypft@nhs.net or calling on 0113 8556346, alternatively, the postal address is Leeds Gender Identity Service, Newsam Centre, Seacroft Hospital, Leeds LS14 6WP.
