Admission at 7 am on day of op to ward M2 was efficient but it would have helped if somebody had spent a couple of minutes putting me at ease and explaining what was going to happen that day. Anaesthetist team explained well and operation done before you could blink. Surgeon and their time seem to have done a great job but I guess time will tell. Staff very attentive on return to ward after short time in busy and caring recovery room. Recovery under the spinal anaesthetic was better than expected. Nurses on the ward are generally exceptional. A couple go well beyond the call of duty - their work ethic is incredible. Physios do a great job in getting you mobile ASAP without needing to spend excessive time with each patient. The toilets don’t seem to be designed for an orthopaedic ward eg nowhere to put wash kit and towel and pedal bin which is impossible to operate with a dodgy leg. M2 seemed to be at the end of the food run so poor selection of sandwiches etc. Food generally a bit boring and on poor side. Overall though, couldn’t praise Clatterbridge and its systems and staff highly enough. I was dreading the experience but didn’t need to.
