"hysterectomy and opherectomy due to 17cm x 2..."

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital / Gynaecology

I thought the major operation and the general post op was good.

my main concern was the pre op assessment meeting, my husband was with me , and the staff member went through all the details with me for what I need, and about the operation., but completely made it sound as if I was having a tooth out , or it was of no significant, and that it was just a little operation, this had a profound effect on my husband who on the way home said ..

you wont need me there at the operation ...and his whole persona changed about how big the operation was,...because the staff member played it down too much..the tumours were life threatening and the operation was major....

when I was in the bed after the operation my husband sat with me and the surgeon explained what I had just gone through...I think then my husband realized.

Please pre appointment nurses don't play it down so much.

Thank you so much for sharing your story.

I am so sorry to read of your experience and I understand why you would feel concerned. I will pass this message to the Gynaecology Department for learning and I sincerely hope you make a speedy recovery.
