"Ill 6 month old with rash - no appointments!"

Telephoned the surgery today about my 6 month old, chesty cough, trouble catching breath, rash that wont go. was told that first appoitment by on call GP was 4.45!

So this poor baby was supposed to wait over 6 hours to be seen by a GP - I dont think so1

called surgery back and stressed the situation, was told to get down here in 10 mins before we close - this was impossible1

Ended up taking baby to A & E and Elliot.

As this was in core GP hours and not under the 111 service this should have been dealt with by the on call GP or at the very least treated as an urgent apmt as follows

6 month old

temp

rash

cough

catching breath

If this is not urgent, what is?

question - did you not have any urgent apmts left

why was not the on call gp offered to call back parents

how do you prioritise urgent cases with under 2 year olds withrash that wont go???
